Tournament Format

  • Open Section: USCF Rated | Game/25 with 5-second delay

  • K–3 & K–6 Sections: USCF Rated | Game/25 with 5-second delay

  • Un-Rated K–2nd Grade & Un-Rated 3rd – 8th Grade Sections: USCF Not Required | Game/25 with 5-sec delay

Section Descriptions

  • Un-Rated Section (USCF Not Required):

    Designed for beginner players K-8th ONLY

  • K–3 Section (USCF Rated)
    For beginners in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Perfect for young players new to tournaments. No prior experience needed.

  • 4th–8th Section (USCF Rated)
    For beginner and intermediate players in 4th–8th grade. Advanced K–3 players may “play up” for more challenge. No experience required.

  • Open Section (USCF Rated)
    For older scholastic and adult players. Experienced K–6 players with a USCF rating may join for a higher level of play. No prior experience required for older participants.

Sections may be combined to ensure maximum play.
Prizes awarded to the top player in each section.

Registration

  • Early Bird: $30 – available until 11:59 PM on November 9th

  • Regular: $40 – from October 10th until 7:30 AM on October 18th

  • Onsite Registration: 8:00-8:30 AM (includes a first-round bye to allow for timely start)

  • Round 1: 9:00 AM

  • Round 2: 10:05 AM

  • Round 3: 11:10 AM

  • Round 4: 12:15 AM


PowerChess Monthly Tournament Rules:

 

1️⃣ USCF Official Rules (Open and Scholastic Sections)

  • The tournament will follow the United States Chess Federation (USCF) Official Rules.

  • Each player is responsible for knowing and following the rules outlined in the official rulebook.

2️⃣ ✍️Notation Requirement (Open Section) 

  • Players must notate their games in the Open section.

  • Exceptions may be requested under Rule 15.A.1 from a Tournament Director. Players granted exceptions will have their time control reduced by 5%.

3️⃣ ✍️No Notation Required for K-3 & K-6 Sections 

  • Players in the K-3 and K-6 sections are NOT required to notate their games.

4️⃣ Tiebreak System (Rule 34.E Variation)

  • The tiebreak order will be:

    1. Solkoff

    2. Modified Median

    3. Cumulative

    4. Cumulative of Opposition
